The Black Lamb Marks the Start of Grouse Season

The British game season is almost here, and The Black Lamb is getting ready to celebrate. From 13th August, we're serving the season's first grouse as a special on our à la carte menu, prepared in our own style to mark one of Britain's most anticipated food traditions.

Grouse is entirely wild — shot on the moors of Yorkshire and never reared — so its arrival each year is a genuinely fleeting moment. With just 120 birds coming into all our restaurants for opening week, our Wimbledon dining room will only have a limited number on the menu.

We're serving Young Yorkshire Grouse with elderberries, cauliflower purée and crispy bacon, finished with wood sorrel — rich and gamey, balanced by sweetness, earthiness and a bright citrus note. For us, it's a true celebration of British produce and seasonality, and everything The Black Lamb stands for.

If you've been waiting for the first grouse of the season, now's the time to book your table at The Black Lamb, Wimbledon.
